Louis XIV et ses ingénieurs ont voulu détourner
les eaux de l'Eure à Pontgouin en Eure-et-Loir et
les conduire par un canal de 80 km.
C'est l'histoire de la conception, de la réalisation
et de l'abandon de ce projet royal qui est rapportée
dans cet ouvrage, aboutissement d'un long travail de recherche
à partir des archives et des vestiges témoins
de cette gigantesque entreprise.
